What will my child learn?

Lessons are personalized to the student, but may include:

  • Piano technique
  • Notes and keyboard skills
  • Chords
  • Rhythm
  • Music reading
  • Ear training
  • Songs and repertoire
  • Improvisation
  • Creative exercises
  • Songwriting
  • Performance skills
  • Practice strategies

We build strong fundamentals while connecting those skills to music your child can actually use and enjoy.

Lessons that grow with the student.

Some students are just beginning. Some already play. Some want to learn favorite songs. Some want to write music, join a band, perform, or build stronger technique. Private lessons give us the flexibility to meet your child where they are and help them grow from there.

More than learning piano.

Confidence

Learning piano gives students repeated chances to work through something hard and experience progress. A challenging passage starts to click. A song comes together. They realize they can do something they could not do before. Those moments build confidence.

Creativity

Students can explore more than what is written on the page. They may improvise, write music, make arrangement choices, and experiment with their own ideas.

Independence

As students grow, we help them rely less on the teacher for every answer. They learn how to practice, solve problems, ask useful questions, and take more ownership of their music.

Questions about getting started.

That is completely fine. No previous piano experience is needed. We start with the basics and build step by step, helping students experience early wins without rushing the process.

We’ll start by learning what they already know, what they enjoyed, and where they may have gotten stuck. Then we can build a plan around their current skills and goals. A student does not have to start over just because they are starting somewhere new.

Sometimes a student does not dislike piano. They dislike the way they have experienced piano. They may need different music. More choice. A stronger connection with the teacher. A different pace. More creativity. Or a bigger reason for learning the instrument. We’ll take time to understand what motivates your child and help them build a path that feels meaningful.

Private piano may be a great choice for students who:

  • Enjoy one-on-one attention
  • Want an individualized pace
  • Have specific musical goals
  • Want deeper support with technique
  • Prefer a quieter learning environment
  • Want to prepare for band, songwriting, or performance
  • Are ready to take more ownership of their learning

Not sure whether private or group piano is better? We can help you decide.

Piano can open a lot of doors.

As students grow, piano can become a tool for:

  • Playing favorite songs
  • Writing music
  • Joining a band
  • Accompanying singers
  • Understanding harmony

  • Performing
  • Creating original music

We want students to see piano as more than something they practice. We want them to see what they can do with it.

Come meet your piano teacher.

A trial lesson gives your child a chance to meet the teacher, play some piano, and experience what one-on-one learning at Thrive feels like. No need to have everything figured out first. We’ll start where your child is and help them find the next step.
