Young guitarist at Thrive

Guitar is more fun when you can make music with other people.

For many kids, guitar becomes exciting when it stops feeling like an exercise and starts feeling like music. In Group Guitar, students learn the basics they need while also playing songs, creating, listening, and learning alongside other kids. They get the structure of a lesson with the energy of a group.

What happens in Group Guitar?

Students may work on:

  • Guitar technique
  • Chords
  • Rhythm
  • Strumming
  • Riffs
  • Notes
  • Ear training
  • Songs
  • Musical patterns
  • Improvisation
  • Creative challenges
  • Playing with others
  • Independent practice skills

Our teachers help kids build a strong foundation while making sure they understand how those skills connect to actual music.

What does class feel like?

Kids are playing. Listening. Trying things. Asking questions. Helping one another. Learning songs. Making mistakes. Trying again. And discovering what they can do. We keep the class structured enough for kids to feel successful while leaving room for creativity, personality, and fun.

More than guitar skills.

Confidence

Guitar gives kids lots of small wins. A first chord. A clean strum. A riff they finally get. Playing through a whole song. Sharing something with the group. Those wins build belief. “I can learn this.”

Creativity

We want kids to understand that learning guitar is not only about copying songs. It can also be a way to create. Students get opportunities to explore sounds, make musical choices, improvise, and begin developing their own ideas.

Belonging

Playing alongside other kids helps students feel like they are part of something. They learn to listen. Take turns. Encourage each other. Celebrate progress. And understand that every player adds something to the music.

Collaboration

Music changes when other people are involved. Kids learn how to stay together, respond to one another, solve problems as a group, and contribute to a shared result. Those skills matter far beyond guitar.

Questions about getting started.

Yes. Students do not need previous guitar experience to begin. We help kids start with the basics, experience early success, and build from there. Learning alongside other beginners can also make starting something new feel less intimidating.

We’ll help determine the best fit based on what they already know. The goal is for your child to be in a class where they feel capable, challenged, and excited to keep growing.

Group Guitar or private guitar lessons?

Both can be a great choice.

Group Guitar may be a great fit if your child:

  • Enjoys learning with other kids
  • Likes active, social classes
  • Wants to play songs with other people
  • Is motivated by shared energy
  • Enjoys collaboration
  • Wants a path toward playing in a band

Private guitar may be a better fit if your child:

  • Prefers focused one-on-one attention
  • Has specific musical goals
  • Wants to move at a highly individualized pace
  • Needs deeper support with certain skills

Not sure which one fits? We can help.

Could this lead to band?

Absolutely. Group Guitar can be a great foundation for kids who eventually want to play with a Thrive band. As students grow, they may begin working toward:

  • Playing full songs with others
  • Listening across a group
  • Holding their own part
  • Creating original music
  • Performing
  • Collaborating with other musicians

That progression gives kids something exciting to grow toward.

Come try Group Guitar.
